Day 1 Heading for the Emerald Isle
Today we start our journey by flying across the United States and taking an overnight flight across the Atlantic Sea to Ireland.
Day 2 Welcome to Ireland
This morning we will land in Dublin Airport and once you proceed through to the arrivals area, you will be met and transferred to your first destination, Co. Dublin, the small capital with a huge reputation.
We will take a panoramic sightseeing tour of Dublin to see local landmarks and historic buildings like the GPO (General Post Office) on O’Connell Street and Trinity College, housing the Book of Kells.
Afterwards, we will journey deep into the heart of the world famous Guinness brand and company. We will visit Guinness Storehouse to hear the story of Ireland’s iconic drink and bringing life the heritage of Guinness from early days to growth as a global brand, known all around the world. We will check in to our hotel and you are free to spend the rest of the evening as you please. Enjoy one of city’s many restaurants for dinner and you simply can’t visit this city without popping your head inside some of its brilliant pubs. Overnight: Dublin Hotel
Day 3 Next Stop…Donegal
After a leisurely breakfast this morning, we will say farewell to Dublin to embark on new adventures in unmissable, Northern Ireland and its capital city, Belfast.
Co. Donegal, known as the Wild Child of Ireland, thanks in part to its rugged interior and characterful pubs. On route, we will stop in the heather-clad hills of Co. Tyrone at The Ulster American Folk Park, a colorful indoor and outdoor museum exploring the story of Irish emigration to the New World. You will be immersed into in the story of Irish emigration at the museum that brings it to life.
Following this, you will reach Donegal for check-in and to enjoy your first night in this lively county. With traditional Irish bars boasting exciting live music, to chic and modern pubs with tasty food and beer – Donegal has it all! Overnight: Donegal Hotel
Day 4 Local Sights & Sounds of Donegal
Refuel on your breakfast this morning as we set out to explore Donegal, dubbed ‘a place like no other on the island’. Our first will stop in Ardara, a designated Heritage Town bursting with artistic and musical talent, for a demonstration of spinning, weaving and knitting at the Triona Design.
Next, we will travel via the Glengesh Pass, a stunning setting with spectacular views with old cottages, farms and sheep dotted along the route, to reach the Slieve League, spectacular sea cliffs which are among the highest in Europe plunging some 600m to the sea. Promising unforgettable views, look down to see two rocks nicknamed the ‘giant’s desk and chair’ for reasons that are immediately obvious.
Following this, we will return to our Donegal Hotel to spend the rest of the evening as you please. Overnight: Donegal Hotel
Day 5 Day Tripping to the North
Once you have had your breakfast, get set to head out a day trip to the rejuvenated and unmissable, Northern Ireland, to visit Derry/Londonderry and to journey to one of the Northwest’s most beautiful regions – the Inishowen Peninsula.
We will visit Inishowen Peninsula which offers a diverse and visually exciting terrain, where the views usually encompass the waters of the loughs or the Atlantic waves. Virtually every aspect of the landscape is superb – the beaches (especially Kinnego Bay, Culdaff, Tullagh and Pollan), the towering headland bluffs (Malin, Inishowen, Dunaff and Dunree) and the central mountain range, with towering Slieve Snaght at the middle of it all.
Later, we will visit Derry/Londonderry, an artistic and cultural hub which was awarded the first City of Culture in 2013, for a guided city tour which offers 1,500 years of social, cultural and religious history of Ireland’s only remaining walled city. We will return to our Donegal Hotel to enjoy the remainder of the evening as you wish. Overnight: Donegal Hotel
Day 6 Welcome to Northern Ireland
Fill up on your Irish Breakfast this morning and get set to bid Donegal farewell in favor of in the rejuvenated and unmissable, Northern Ireland. We will cross the border into Northern Ireland (part of the UK) where the only changes to expect are the road signs and the currency (from Euro to Sterling).
On route, we will stop in Co. Fermanagh at Belleek China, one of the most famous China brands in the world thanks in part for the reputation for its excellence in craftsmanship. Later, we will reach Belfast, the transformed city famous in equal parts for the birthplace of the Titanic, the notorious history of Northern Ireland and its quality driven hospitality scene. Upon arrival, we will enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour of Belfast, taking in all areas including the City Centre, the Protestant neighborhood of Shankill Road, the Catholic neighborhood of Falls Road and the Titanic Quarter.
After a busy afternoon, we will make our way to our Belfast Hotel for check-in and to enjoy the rest of the evening as you wish. Overnight: Belfast Hotel
Day 7 Unique Experiences in Antrim
This morning, finish your breakfast and get set to leave the city for the world famous Giant’s Causeway, renowned for its polygonal columns of layered basalt, which is the only World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland. Resulting from a volcanic eruption 60 million years ago, this is the focal point for a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has harbored a wealth of local and natural history.
Afterwards, we will visit Ireland’s oldest working whiskey distillery, Old Bushmills Distillery, to watch whiskey making take place and enjoy a wee taster too. Experience a guided tour of Ireland’s only “grain to glass” distillery and discover some of our trade secrets learned over 400 years of distilling. We will return to the city to enjoy our evening. As you may know by now, Belfast offers everything from fine dining, brasseries and bistros to gastro pubs, cafes, coffee shops and some of the best fish & chips around. From quick drinks to cocktail lounges – you are sure to find something to your taste, enjoy! Overnight: Belfast Hotel
Day 8 The Wonders of Westeros
After a hearty breakfast this morning, we leave the city for the surrounding Antrim countryside as most simply, you cannot come to Northern Ireland without visiting the now famous locations across the country which hit series Game of Thrones is filmed from.
We will visit the popular Game of Thrones film locations and sites to see the sprawling medieval walls, imposing castle ruins, beautiful landscape surrounding and far-reaching views across the lough – you may soon realize how the HBO® location chose the perfect places to create the award winning series. Winterfell – home of the Stark family. On arrival at Winterfell Castle, we will be lead to a truly unique, authentic and very memorable medieval banquet experience on the castle grounds – this is sure to be the most memorable of dining experiences!
Then, we will return to our Belfast Hotel to spend the rest of the evening as you please. Overnight: Belfast Hotel
Day 9 Relax & Recovery in Cavan
Refuel on your leisurely breakfast as we bid Belfast farewell as we embark on a luxurious stay in Cabra Castle in Co. Cavan, known as the ‘Lake Country’ as supposedly there is a lake for every day of the year (including leap years).
On our way to Cavan, we will visit Down Cathedral, a Church of Ireland cathedral built in 1183 where Ireland’s patron saint St. Patrick’s remains are buried in the graveyard. We will visit The Saint Patrick Visitor Centre to explore the legacy of Patrick, ancient and modern, and recall the saint’s own story in his own words.
Afterwards, we will arrive and check into Cabra Castle, the magnificent 19th century 4 star castle which is set on 100 acres of beautifully manicured gardens and parkland. Enjoy your surroundings before meeting later to share a farewell dinner together. Reflect on the memories, friendships and magic created during your stay in Ireland and toast to a successful trip in the Emerald Isle. Overnight: Cabra Castle, Co. Cavan
Day 10 Homeward Bound…
Pack your bags as we head for Dublin Airport where you will board your flight for home. Carry on your photos and memories and bring a bit of the Emerald Isle home with you. ‘The Land of One Hundred Thousand Welcomes’ will be expecting you again soon.
