Trad on the Prom celebrates 20 years of song and dance magic

The electrifying Irish music song and dance show – Trad on the Prom – celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year in its Galway home.

For twenty years the Trad on the Prom show in Salthill, County Galway, has been wowing audiences with its high-energy, passionate dance and music performances. With a world-class cast of performers, the show has made a name for itself as a must-see on any visit to Ireland’s spectacular Wild Atlantic Way.

The current cast includes the amazing vocal talent of Máirín Fahy (featured soloist with Riverdance and The Chieftains) who is joined on stage by her outstanding band including Chris Kelly, Gerard Fahy (composer of the smash hit dance show Lord of the Dance), Yvonne Fahy, Padraig Rynne and Colm Henry. The traditional Irish music played in the show features the unique sounds of the bodhran, whistles, uileann pipes, accordions, concertina, bouzouki, guitars, keyboards and percussion.

The Trad on the Prom dancers have an astounding 27 World Titles between them. They include World Champions Claire Greaney, Cathal Keaney (lead Lord of the Dance), Sylvia Carroll, Owen Gaughan, Evan O’Brien and Colm Conneely.

Also on stage are TikTok sensations Dara Kelly and Ronan O’Connell, co-founders of Cairde, whose dance videos have over three million followers. They perform fun dance-offs to exhilarating trad rock music.

Trad on the Prom takes place in the Leisureland Theatre in the seaside town of Salthill just a few kilometers outside Galway City. The twentieth anniversary celebrations kick off on 12 May and the show is performed three times a week between May and September.

Trad on the Prom is a great reason to visit County Galway but there are a multitude of others too. Galway City is a colorful and vibrant city with a lively pub culture complete with traditional music sessions. It’s a foodie paradise, known for its excellent artisan produce, and is also famous for its calendar of festivals that range from the Galway International Arts Festival in July to the International  Oyster and Seafood Festival in September.

Beyond the city is a landscape of jaw-dropping natural beauty. The rugged wildness of Connemara stretching from the Atlantic coast to the dramatic inland mountains, lakes and bogland has always been a magnet for hikers, artists and poets. And lying off the coast are the Aran Islands where ancient monuments sit within an unsplit landscape crisscrossed by dry-stone walls.
