For the first time in Friendship Four history, 4 teams will clash to compete for the illustrious Belpot Trophy! The tournament will feature the Sacred Heart (AHA), Rochester Institute of Technology (AHA), Union (ECAC), and Miami OH (NCHC).

History behind the Friendship Four

The Friendship Four is no ordinary NCAA Division I Hockey tournament – it’s the first and only tournament played outside the U.S., with its heart firmly rooted in Boston. The idea took off when the Bruins faced off against the Belfast Giants in 2010, sparking a Sister Cities agreement between Boston and Belfast in 2014.

Hockey became the perfect way to build connections both within the Emerald Isle and across the pond. The Belfast Giants with the help of the Odyssey Trust organized and hosted their version of the Beanpot, a local college hockey tournament held in Boston, calling it the Friendship Four.

Fast forward to now, each year, four college teams battle it out in Belfast for the “Belpot” trophy. Giving the student athletes a chance to play abroad, visit a new a new land and culture. The Friendship Four is an unique experience for any hockey fan with a whole lot of heart and Irish charm!
