Smithwick’s Experience Kilkenny launches new Masters of Ale Experience

A new tour of the Smithwick’s Experience offers visitors a premium multi-sensory tasting masterclass and in-depth journey into the famous ale’s history.

The new Masters of Ale Experience includes a sensorial tasting masterclass, a perfect pint pouring tutorial and an unforgettable journey back in time to discover the prominent role the Smithwick family played in the evolution of Irish ale.

The 75-minute tour runs on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings as the last tour of the day, giving participants plenty of time to immerse themselves in the experience.

The masterclass invites visitors to isolate the senses and break down the raw ingredients across different ale styles as they explore the brewing process and discover what makes Smithwick’s so special. They will journey back to the thirteenth century to the earliest origins of brewing on the island begun by monastic settlements, told through a fascinating tale of tradition, resilience, and innovation. This rich story is told by guides and showcased through audio-visual displays.

Ignacio Peregrina, Smithwick’s Experience Kilkenny Manager, says: “Masters of Ale allows us to satisfy the thirst of those visitors looking for a more immersive and experiential beer experience and hear the story behind one of Ireland’s oldest and most popular ales. The experience is an absolute must for the culturally curious and beer enthusiasts.”

The Masters of Ale experience finishes with a guided tutorial in the bar on how to pour a perfect pint of Smithwick’s. Participants also receive an engraved Smithwick’s glass as a memento of the tour.

The award-winning Smithwick’s Experience celebrates, explores and immortalizes over 300 years of history and brewing excellence. The standard one-hour guided tours are one of the most popular activities enjoyed by visitors to the medieval city of Kilkenny and the new tour is already receiving excellent reviews.

Visitors to Kilkenny should also not miss taking a guided tour of the city’s impressive Norman castle. Follow this with a walk, or better still, a guided walk down the Medieval Mile to hear the fascinating stories behind the medieval buildings and cobbled laneways. Stop for a drink in 700-year-old Kyleter’s Inn which played a role in the famous witchcraft events that Kilkenny is famous for and soak up the atmosphere.

Or for something completely different head to The Kilkenny Way to try your hand at hurling, Ireland’s national sport and the world’s oldest and fastest field game.
