The world’s only official Game of Thrones Studio Tour recently celebrated its second birthday. Created in partnership with Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment, the Studio Tour is located at Linen Mill Studios, Banbridge, where a significant proportion of the show’s Northern Ireland-based filming took place.

Adding to the festivities, actor Ian McElhinney, famous for his role as Ser Barristan Selmy, returned to the Seven Kingdoms to be featured in an exclusive video revisiting the history of Linen Mill Studios and its Game of Thrones connections for the visitor attraction’s new website.

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour is one of Northern Ireland’s top attractions, having welcomed thousands of people from around the world since it opened in February 2022. The tour experience takes visitors from the frozen North of ‘The Land Beyond the Wall’ down to ‘King’s Landing’ and the famous Throne Room. Highlights include the Great Hall of Winterfell, the Hall of Faces and the huge dragon skulls.

Along the way visitors see over 150 original costumes, weapons like the Catspaw Dagger and Long Claw, and authentic sets and props from the series including the original Iron Throne. There are also interactive screens and a multitude of behind-the-scenes elements that reveal the creative artistry that brought Game of Thrones to life on screen.

Sam Harding, Game of Thrones Studio Tour Managing Director, says: “We had an exciting 2023 and are confident that 2024 will be even better, The Studio Tour is not just an experience for Game of Thrones fans – it’s for fans of filmmaking, costumes, set-building, weapons, prop-making and much more. The Studio Tour has lots of interactive activities for people of all ages, ensuring an unforgettable day out.”

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour is just one of a raft of great Game of Thrones experiences that can be enjoyed in Northern Ireland. There are numerous guided tours around the shoot locations of the original series, you can follow the Glass of Thrones trail in Belfast and take the Journey of Doors across the region.
